30/7/13 Versailles (4)

So Nicks in charge of driving the golf cart & he has the map...please look carefully, it's upside down & in front of his face so he's not lookin where he's going. Sounds like a Brisbane taxi driver to me.

I don't know whether this is proof that I sat in the back, or a hysterical laugh at the situation...anyway it was worth getting the buggy because it was way too far to walk in one day.

There's not much more to say, so just enjoy...we did.

Imagine the maintenance & upkeep of these gardens back in the 17th Century?

Just beautiful .

Up close & beautiful.

There are different themes throughout the grounds.

One of the large central fountains that are more than life size.

Some of the walks are so long that you lose sight of the start or finish.

This is the Grande Canal system & it's so extensive that they would actually have French war ships here practicing manoeuvres. The King was also given 2 gondola's including the Gondoliers as a present from Italy.

It's just so beautifully maintained & everywhere there is something to catch the eye.

One of the low mazes that look so impressive from the Palace.

I hope he had shares in a gold mine, but he used this show of wealth & extravagance to show his people, allies & his enemies that he was also very powerful.
