31/7/13 The Louvre

The underground Pyramid...part of the Louvre complex.

The above ground Pyramid..just as awesome.

So now we're in the Louvre and I would like to tell you a little about everything, but it was all in French, but I'm sure you will enjoy it. A statue.

A bigger group statue.

Rahhh...who's the king of the jungle statue.

A granite & marble statue with columns.

I have no idea what this means...maybe they have so many statues that they have other uses for the less important ones?

A very big headless statue.

The painting section...you could spend days in this place & never see everything.

I think Da Vinci had a thing about enigmatic smiles & pointing fingers...they seem to be a theme in a lot of his paintings.

The Goddess Diana getting about all right places to be seen by everyone.

The Mona Lisa...enough said!

I've always had a thing for Egyptian things & this one of the best places to see the artefacts. Gold statues.

Whoops...got the photos out of order & it's too hard to change...sorry...beautiful though isn't it?

Blur glazed Egyptian God or King.

Granite Sphinx.

A plethora of Egyptian statues.

A black stoned Egyptian family of statues.

Hieroglyphs.

A bull headed statue.

An Egyptian Queen in gold & cobalt & ochre.

Another black statue.

A stone Mummy sarcophagus to suit every shape & size.

A stone falcon wearing a silly hat.

Stone baboons.

The Pharaoh used to have their pets etc embalmed & placed in their burial sites as well, so that they had company on the other side...but a crocodile, not the type of company I would want .

Amazing mosaic floors & walls. Hundreds of tiny pieces of stone, glass & glazed pottery all hand placed to make these intricate designs come to life.

The Louvre itself is a work of art.

The Louvre was a must see...priceless!

So the boys & I split up again & I headed to the Mont Martre district. Great shops & restaurants & this dinky little cable car that takes u up a very steep hill.

To this...the Monte Martre Church & Castle. It was absolutely brilliant white & I wondered why there were so many people sitting on the grass & the stairs.

This photo doesn't show how white it is, but it does show you how beautiful it is.

The Castle is right beside it.

So this is why everyone is up here...the view is spectacular & so I joined them & sat & has a water while taking in the city of Paris...mmm...loved it.
