14/7/13 We are exploring San Remo today & this is the local Casino.

It's Sunday & the local markets are open in the Piazza...guess what...they are full of local stuff just like back home, although there was some weird stuff like original war memorabilia & marble & brass statues...not a plaster gnome in site!

Again we forgot to take a photo of lunch before we started...whoops...the boys risotto was yum!

So we decided to walk off lunch & climb to the highest point in San Remo in the suburb of La Pigna. The higher we climbed the narrower the streets.

Half way up the hill & check out this olive tree...no idea how old it is...the trunk is so twisted @ gnarled.

Now we are seeing less & less traffic...its easy to image what it was like living here 100's of years ago, nothing much has changed.

It's quite steep & it smells damp & musty (& a little bit piddley). I'm puffing like a train...this view better be good!

Nearly at the top & a lot of the original paving is still there...imagine laying all these stones vertically for miles & miles.

Finally at the top & a selfie with the view from the Piazza Castello lookout...very picturesque.

Andrew leads the way back down & finds an easier quicker way...the sign for the tourists took us a steeper & harder way. Maybe they don't want to share?

Back at the bottom of the hill & on the Main Street, we do a bit of window shopping. Everyone takes their dogs with them, walking, shopping (even the supermarket), restaurants etc. We were watching this little fellow who was being a bit naughty & his owner started reprimanding him (in Italian). We all burst out laughing because we realised that even the dogs who can't speak at all, understand more Italian than we do...omg!
