7/7/13 The streets of Naples...typically Italian, but very dirty. We did a tour of the Napoli Underground where stone has been excavated for building for 5,000 years leaving 2million square metres of empty space composed of tunnels & cisterns. Via aqueducts the spaces were filled with water & this was the water supply for the city until 1884 after an outbreak of cholera decimated the city. It was drained & used as a bomb shelter during WWII and more recently as tourist attraction.



At a constant 15 degrees & 100% humidity it was a huge contrast to the 35 degrees above ground.
