17/7/13 (4)

After the Inquisition a lot of the churches were destroyed & the space left is now used as an open air theatre hosting worldwide bands. I can hear one of them playing while I'm blogging at the moment.

The view on the opposite side of the new city & the Pyrenean Mountains in the distance.

We are having a drink in an Alfresco Bar & our backdrop is a Gothic Church...mmm margarita.

They have a jousting display with a bit of a story (all done in French) but we got the gist. Boy meets girl, boy wants girl, bad guy wants her too...

& there's always some joker...

& an audience to cheer them on...

Both guys get their mates to back them up, on horseback & dressed funny of course...

Then it's on for young & old...I can cut an apple in 2 off a spear...top that buddy

I can hit a swing shield with my big pole riding at full pace (& they were flying)...

This girl must really be something...it's a hell of a way to get a date?

They are actually hitting each other & shattering the end of the lances...not for the feint hearted.

You can actually see the splinters of wood flying as they make contact. I checked it out at the end of the show & it's quite sturdy wood. These guys were excellent horsemen.

End of the day for the competitors...I don't know if the guy got the girl, but the horse got the goat...so romantic hey?

Back into the City Centre to have dinner...these creeps were tempting, but we resisted.

Well, well, well...an oldie but a goodie.

Bon appetite.

Entree's were served on pieces of slate...cool.

We managed to resist the crepes, but then we saw the dessert menu & you know how it is...it was beautiful & your full, but you just cram that little bit more in because you justify it with the excuse that we are going to walk home & that makes it all ok...doesn't it?!
