This is Catt & Jamie from the Northern New South Wales coast & our neighbours at the campsite last nite. Mad keen cyclists who head off tomorrow & very kindly offered to give us all their wonderful leftovers...thanks so much for the great frypan, bike locking chain, clothes line & pegs & assorted other goodies. Have a safe trip home & Catt I'll email you when we get back...have a safe trip.
Napoleon Bonaparte Bridge which has 17 arches built by him because he considered himself a very important person...cool bridge.
I can't help myself...Rahhh, who's the King of the Jungle?
This is Veronique, wife & partner of the operators of the Chateau Champion. This winery has been in the family for nearly 800 years & has only grown in size through marriages. She was a wonderful host & extremely interesting to listen to. Wine is such a passion for these people & her enthusiasm brushed off on everyone there.
The oak vat cellar...these barrels are full for about 1 year at a time & are reusable for 3 to 6 years.
Veronique is so passionate about cask use & recycling that she re-uses all here's for potted citrus trees or vegetable gardens etc.
Our host then championed a wonderful lunch with tasting from their 2008, 2009 & 2010 years.
From their 28 hectares they make 70,000 bottles of vintage wine per year.
The Bordeaux region is approximately 1/4 of France & they produce 700,000 million bottles per year.
There have very strict rules & guidelines & once a vine reaches 3 years of age, they are not allowed to irrigate whatsoever. The vines have a lifespan like humans 95 - 100 years, but their best production is up to the 50 years mark.
This is Mike & Christine & their lovely daughter that were on the tour with us. We had great fun with them over lunch & if they access this blog, please accept my apologies, but I left your contact details on the counter when we were purchasing the wine. Please email me & I will be able to catch up with you then. We were having way too much fun I think?
Yes this is where I went wrong...too much fun in the cellar area & yes that is the piece of paper just behind me on the counter...what a dope!
The area is picturesque & the day was perfect.
